2020 was a tough year for many people, a lot happened in the year and the chief of all was the Covid 19 pandemic but despite these challenges, there is a lot to be grateful for
Why am I recording and sharing this?
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” 1 Thes 5:18
So here are 30 things I’m grateful for, I choose 30 but that is not everything. Trust me there is always something to be grateful for daily.
1. I did my best to love my wife daily. She has been a blessing to me, easy-going and determined to make our home peaceful and loving.
2. I moved to the UK from Nigeria. This was a step of faith but a simple decision because I value family and didn’t want to be separated from my family. I am grateful to be in the space with my wife during this challenging time of the lockdown
3. I did some training regarding my new career move in IT Project management. This was a big step for me, I not only moved to a new country with all its challenges but switched careers in a new industry
4. Started and completed multiple IT projects. This is a big deal for me because I switched not only to a new career path but gained valuable experience.
5. Read Brian Houston book Live, Love lead. Learnt that people are the backbone of any worthwhile venture and how to handle different areas of life.
6. Grateful for meeting a few people in Penzance Cornwall and the many conversions with them, they made my stay in Penzance enjoyable. God bless the family of Discovery Church Penzance.
7. Started writing weekly for a new project as a volunteer. Enjoyed the process and learnt a lot
8. Baked chocolate and vanilla cakes during lockdown for the first time. Had a lot of help from my lovely wife…….LOL
9. Started an online bible study group to mentor, disciple and teach the gospel.
10. Read a few more books during the year that really impacted me and I am grateful, some of them are Biblical Finance by Andrew Wommack, Property investment by Rob Dix, Gay girl good God, Atomic habits, How to win and influence friends in the 21st century
11. Took a couple of courses to, making the most of the lockdown. One platform that I used was Skillshare, one of the most important subscriptions of 2020
12. As a result of the courses I learnt and applied new skill to my career and life. Some of my favorites are Mind mapping and photography.
13. Created my first of many mind maps to flesh out ideas for the blog, during meeting at work etc
14. I started investing in index funds with vanguard UK. This is one advantage I have been looking forward to, as vanguard isn’t available in many countries
15. Increased saving for a house which we plan to buy in 2021. One of our goals for 2020 was to buy a house in the UK and we are working to achieve that goal COVID or not
16. Learnt and used new collaborative and communication tools. Trello, Azure, Basecamp especially but not limited to work projects
17. To increase the financial literacy of those around me, I create a simple financial literacy document and shared it with a few communities
18. Got involved with limitless Penzance to learn, teach and mentor
19. Paid off all my consumer debt
20. I and my wife had a recorded discussion with Dan Rubens regarding racism and living in the UK as a black man during the black lives matter protest
21. Moved into 2 new apartments in two different cities in Cornwall (Bodmin and Penzance)
22. Had my first personal finance coaching session with a young couple. A humbling experience, learnt a lot
23. I got my first job in the UK; I am grateful to get a job during the lockdown in a pandemic
24. Felt my unborn son’s powerful kick for the first time…..awesome
25. I was trusted to lead a Nigerian community in the UK and Europe and I am grateful for the trust and privilege
26. Learnt a lot from podcasts and some of my favourites are Choose FI and Tim Ferris
27. One year anniversary of being married to my beautiful wife is one I will never forget because my son Kene was born on the same day
28. Grateful to the doctors and nurses of NICU Treliske for taking care of my pre-term son and wife. They were awesome
29. Grateful for the doctors and nurses of NICU St Michael hospital, yes we spent some time in the hospital which is another story
30. Grateful for Cot for Tots. A charity organisation that provides accommodation for parents of pre-term babies in NICU. It was a God sent and I really can’t appreciate them enough. Find the link on donating below.
